Gas gauge will not drop below 3/4

Hello everyone: I have a 2013 Fleetwood Terra with the Ford V10 engine that we bought used two years ago and everything has gone fine until recently on our camping trip to South Lake Tahoe, when the gas gauge always showed 3/4 full and would not drop below that mark. Has anyone had this problem with the gauge being stuck at 3/4 even after driving 150 miles? I appreciate any input.

I’m guessing your unit is on the Ford F53 chassis. The first suspect would be the fuel level sending unit which is incorporated into the in-tank fuel pump. If the electrical connections can be accessed without removing fuel tank, perhaps one could plug a new pump/level sensor in, excercise the level sensor and see if gauge acts properly. Otherwise, dropping the tank may be necessary.

If the gauge does operate between full and 3/4, my guess is the arm on the sending unit is catching on something that won't let it drop any farther. Conversely, the needle in the gauge could be catching on something (does the gauge go to 'E' when the ignition is off?). Still, testing the gauge for full operation from full to empty is a good starting point.

C5 Corvettes had a problem with fuel level probes. It turned out cheap gas was forming deposits on the probe.
The solution was to run Chevron gas (contains Techron) or run a bunch of Techron in whatever gas was in the tank.

That's all I got...

I think it means you'll never need to stop for fuel!

You say it never drops below 3/4, and then you say that it's stuck at 3/4. So I'm confused. Can you clarify, please?

Gas gauge will not drop below 3/4"

Hi all, thanks for your responses, yes it is an F53 and when I turn off the ignition the needle does go to empty and climbs to 3/4 when I turn the key to the start position again. On our last trip to Lake Tahoe I put 16 gallons half way there and the needle went almost to the full mark but coming back the needle stayed at a little below the 3/4 full mark, so we stopped at a station and put in another 10 gallons. I'm going to try and see if I can get to the wiring on the tank and see if the wiring is loose, or maybe just take it in to the shop I use and let them try to figure it out.
I'll try and keep you posted

I think daveandcarol got it. Straightforward sender failure. Let's hope so -- it's probably more convenient to replace than the dash gauge.
