Bounder: Generator Auto Shutoff - Bounder

2016 Bounder 35K with the 5.5kW Onan

A few days ago, the generator began shutting off automatically once it reached a “Float” charging state. This began after I changed the input voltage on the charge control panel to 50A (it was on 15A from storage before). We are currently running it about 3-4 hrs per day while boondocking.

I have put about 350 hours on the generator since buying the motorhome and it’s never done this before.... Its a great “feature” but I don’t know if it’s actually supposed to do this or why it started.

Sounds like it is on auto generator start (AGS) and has reached the set charge time so shuts off. Typically, the advice is not to charge it beyond Float because it is slow charging after that and the slight gain is not worth the fuel! In my past experience the AGS was set up with the inverter controls. But, on the new Bounder we just got it is via the Command 30 panel which is an Onan product and I am still in learning mode. Not sure which system you might have. Good luck. Hope this helps. Sure you will get more info from others!
