Generator connected?

Hi, we just picked up a 99 Fleetwood Discovery DP with a propane generator. When we picked it up I thought I checked everything out but it seams the RV was plugged in when I started the generator so I did not realize while running, it was not sending power to the coach. On our old RV while not plugged in the cord was plugged into an outlet from the generator. Does this need to be plugged in also? I can't see any place for it. I checked the breakers on the unit and inside the coach. The seller does not know anything about it. Any help would be great I am very green with DPs.
Thanks
Mike

Welcome to iRV2.com, Mike!

I would suspect there as an Automatic Transfer Switch in your coach. If you can look around where the shore power cord enters the coach it may go into a box, small shoebox size, with two other cords or conduits coming out. If you see this you have a transfer switch. You can open it and carefully meter the terminals with a DMM to determine whether you have generator power going to it and whether it makes it out.

Good Luck!

Your Discovery has an Automatic Transfer Switch, which switches the power source to the generator whenever it is started and producing 120v power. You do not need to plug the shore cord into a generator outlet.

If you don't get power from the generator, check the circuit breaker on the generator itself.

I can't imagine how that had anything to do with power from the generator, but if it fixed the problem, that's great!
