getting locked out of rig
the lower door locked after I walked outside to do some chores, of course the keys were inside.
was able to climb into the drivers window so all was good this time AND I'll be having extra keys somewhere handy.
after getting back inside I was found the reason this happened is the lower lock can be applied while the door is opened and does not disengage the lock when the door is closed. unlike some car doors, which if I were to lock the door while it is open and close the door, it disengages the lock-seems like a smart feature so we don't lock the keys inside.
Is this typical of many fleetwood door locks? Ours is an 05 Discovery with a Trimark handset.

Your door lock is probably like most homes. EG: If I open the front door on my house with the door locked the door will open from the inside. If I forget to turn the little door lock knob to the unlocked position, I'm locked out.
I have a well hidden but easily accessible door lock key hidden just in case this happens. I don't carry a massive ring of keys. Those stay inside unless I need them. Too bulky to carry around. As long as I can get into my coach I can retrieve any keys I want.
I have plenty of extra door keys so I can pass them out to other family members while we are camping. If we're all off doing something anyone in the group can come back and get inside with no problem.

"Outside" being the KEY word here. I should have mentioned that.

It’s happened to my Revolution it doesn’t take much to push lock down while opening door from inside.

My motor home has the 2 key entry door lock and a 3rd key for basement doors. I keep an extra basement key in a magnetic keysafe that I place in a wheel well every time I park. Then I place the 2 entry door keys in magnetic keysafe in a basement compartment.
This way it would near impossible to lose access to the inside as well as the basement if the keys were lost or if you got accidentally locked out.

Assuming you don't lock the basement compartment the key is hidden in.

We keep a set of door keys hidden in the propane bay of the RV. We have had to use them a couple of times, including once when I left the RV at the shop and forgot to leave them the door keys for the RV.

Excellent place to hide spare key!

Check the door jamb screws on the lock
This happened to me. The Door lock screws on the jamb were loose and the key would not work. Had to crawl thru the window and open it from the inside. Took me a while to figure it out. I was about to order a new latch and replace it. Put some locktite on the screws if they are loose.

After the first camper I got locked out of years ago. I have bought a hide-a-key for campers.

Airstreams have the opposite issue. They have been known to lock the owners inside the trailer. The door handle can fail and unless you have done “the fix” that allows you to use a screwdriver to pop the lock, you get to test the emergency egress window! Doesn’t matter where the keys are.
Never happened to our Airstream, but I read many threads over on the airstream forum about this.

Ummmm! Not really. Hiding a key in the propane compartment probably accounts for a large percentage of places folks hide a spare key for an RV whether it be a class A, 5 Th. Wheel or Tow behind trailer.
Number two might be behind the cover on the front of an onboard generator.
I seldom leave my coach without my wallet. I have a spare door key I keep in my wallet when we are camping or traveling. I also have one of the "Hide-A-Key" boxes attached to my frame somewhere out of sight but reachable.

We have a small combination safe in the hitch receiver on the Jeep we tow. A spare key is there if needed.
