R134A. Auto A/Cs do not "use" freon. If your system is low/empty you have a leak. R12 was baned in the 90s because of ozone destruction. R134 isn't much better. I am not an environmentalist, but I do like the beach. Please fix the leaks before servicing. You might need two cans to service but if the system is low, only a set of guages and a good thermometer will tell how much to add. To much and you can blow a hose, condenser or pressure releif valve.
