How does Fleetwood come up with these letters
Just curious, is there any madness behind the letters used to designate model?
33C, 34T, 35K, 36E, 33U, I could go on. I suspect the numbers somewhat represent, length, but the lettering. Any Ideas?

You would think 33=33', but they are +/- 2 feet. I looked at some of the 38x models, they are from 39-40', and my 40E is close to 42', The letter is the floorplan, or nearest I can tell, and I am not sure how they decide on which letter, I don't see then issued in order.

My 35E was almost 36'. I always thought the letters were used to identify different floorpans.

When John Crean, the founder of Fleetwood, started building mobil homes he used the model numbers to indicate the units was shorter than they were to avoid paying over length fees for deliveries. Then he found out his competitors couldn't figure out how he got so much living space in that length. That play on numbers carried onto his pull behinds and motorhomes. Most Fleetwood motorhomes are about 11" longer than the model number would indicate.
John Crean's autobiography, "The Wheel & I", is an excellent read.

Our 2012 36J Discovery is about 37' 8", but I figure the "J" stood for Joe, so I bought it.

Actually, the model number refers to the usable floor plan space. The overall length will be about 11" larger in Fleetwoods and a similar extra in other brands.
The letters indicate the floor plan (layout).
