About 65 mph of 70 mph interstates. I am getting tired of right lane driving. It seems like the ruts are much worse in the right lane. Time to move to the center lane. Guess I will have to put the radio on louder so I can't hear the drivers calling me names.

I run 62-63 which seems to be the "sweet spot" on my clunker. Speed limit is 75 from Boerne, TX and then goes to 80 mph on IH10 west of Kerrville, TX to El Paso. A lot of IH20 in west Texas is also 80 mph. A new toll road from Seguin to Austin, TX is 85, I think it is IH130 but have not been on it.

I seldom get over 67 or so as the paint will come off my Bounder....ha ha

I have tried to drive at 60-63, but realized the transmission, was not shifting into 6th. Since then I have been driving 65, on the cruise, in the economy mode. In '93 we bought a truck, a 60 series Detroit, 10 L. one of the first with an electronic engine. My brother was doing the driving, and was upset because it was using more fuel than our 400 Cummins, so took it back to the dealer, to see what was wrong. What he found out was what a terrible driver he was. The computer showed him how many time he over-speeded the engine, how many times he missed a shift. What really shook him up was when they told him shift the thing into 10th, and set the cruise and set back and relax. So he started using the cruise, and it used 20 gals. less per trip than the Cummins. So there you are, and I'm stickin' to it, because I know it works.

My guess is that if you drive 75 or 80 you are not retired.
I often wonder why trucks with trailers or fivers are running at
70 plus on the highways.
Guess you will slow down and enjoy the complete trip once you
have some time on your hands.

I am not retired, but usually run 60-65. Those running faster than 75 should look at their tires. I think the larger RV tires are rated for a maximum of 75.

It won't go into 6th gear until I get over 60 and to keep it in 6th gear I drive it at 64-65 which is running around 1700 RPMs that seems to be it's sweet spot.

We took our new to us 92 Eagle on a 10k trip last year covering 10 states, in most the states the speed limit was 70 or 75. If the roads were good and light traffic I would run the speed limit. I was not pulling a toad. Even at that I averaged 10mpg. Best advice drive only what you are comfortable with. These things don't stop on a dime, I drive mine like I drove my over the road truck, always be looking at least a half mile ahead. Happy RVing

Is your trans in economy mode? My discovery likes 57mph in 6th at 1550 rpm. I average 11mpg!

Yes, it's in economy mode and 57-58 seems to be where 6th starts to come in, but if I put it on cruise, 60 is just too close and it will adjust down to 5th gear if I get on an incline of any kind. So I up it to 62-64 and cruise will keep it there. I'm averaging about the same mpg as you.

I like 55 to 60 mph in my 08 Gas Workhorse. About 1800 rpm and 7-8 mpg pulling a toad with cruise on. Haven't been in the mountains yet but on steep hills its foot on the pedal and mind the tach.

I find myself using the cruise almost always when on a highway. Even in light traffic I will use the +- touch to adjust my speed accordingly. I have found I am usually at 65-70mph as I stay with traffic speeds on interstate highways.
I will try this coming weekend to take it slower 60-65 without cruise just to see if it makes a difference on the mpg. Still happy with the 8.5-9.0mpg while towing. Every now and then it will ready 9.3mpg. Would love to see double digits though.
I know with my Ford F-350 I bought a programmer that made a big difference in mpg. Anyone know if this is possible with the DP? Just a thought.
