jacks

So whenever i go to level the coach on what i would consider fairly unlevel ground using the auto level, the system will not work on auto. Is this normal, does the system have parameters that won't let it even try to level when it is too far off level? I wait for the wait light to go off them hit level and usually two of the lights front and side or rear and side start to flash along with the center light and the system does nothing. I looked through the manual and it says nothing.

Out of level

On our Bounder I take a look at how far it is off level and place blocks under the jacks as needed. If any wheels come off the ground I extend the jacks a couple of inches further and put more blocks under the wheels and then lower it down to whatever is level.

Only the brakes in the rear wheels are keeping you from rolling downhill! If the rear wheels even look like they might come off the ground I chock the fronts.

One of the places we go a couple of times a year requires the tires on one end of the coach to be over 12 inches off the ground! I carry 30 of the Rumble stacker blocks plus 15 wooden blocks and use them all.

You may need to re calibrate your auto-leveling system.

They are whatever came with the coach. I believe powergear. And to answer the other question, its not a matter of using boards and leveling blocks, the thing should level or at least try to level in automatic mode. It doesnt do anything unless the coach is dam near level to begin with.

It's important to know so we can assist or point you in the right direction. If it's Power Gear , you can email them at info@powergearus.com . They will respond quickly and answer your questions and most likely solve your problem.

This may be off the wall and not apply to all or newer jack systems. On your coach did you have to do a procedure to train your jack system where you wanted level to be? If you have that type, did it seem to try to work at all? When my coach was new I had to go thru the level setup explained in the owners manual to let my system know what I considered level to be. I have the Atwood Level Leg system. Just a thought!

They are power gear. Sometimes when I am near level they work just fine on auto but if I can definitely feel that the coach is out of level, they will not work on auto. However, today I parked the coach and the front was very low. I hit auto and it leveled just fine on auto yet to do so, the jacks had to lift the front wheels of the ground about an inch. So I'm not sure that my theory of auto not working when the coach is very unlevel holds up.

We have never been happy with our PowerGear "automatic" leveling. We have recalibrated the jacks a few times and it always seems to level with the jacks over-extended. So... we always manually level. It only takes a few minutes to level manually.

We took out new coach out this past weekend and we also have power gear jacks and when we got ready to leave, after retracting them, I went out to check and the rear ones didn't seem to retract fully so put them back down and the second time, they seem to retract fully. Have already reported this to the dealer.

This is what our owner manual says.

Do not attempt to raise the tires off the ground. The system should be used to raise the recreational vehicle to the lowest level position possible.

I agree, the tires should not be off the ground however for once the auto level worked and the system put them off the ground. I guess what i need to know is does it say anywhere in the manual that the system will not try to auto level if the vehicle is sitting too far off level to begin with. I'm beginning to think that it may not be the front to back level that might stop the auto level from working,i think the side to side is what is keeping it from auto leveling.

Barry--we have hydraulic jacks, not electric.

We've got the Atwood electric jacks. Had to do this when new & a handful of times since. If the batt's run down (breaker trips where we're plugged in & don't know it) the jacks lose their memory.

Even when recalibrated, there's still times Auto seems to have a mind of it's own & decides when IT thinks it's level (including full extension of the jacks making us unlevel) & it isn't.

Although, seeing as you have a new coach, I believe they're all hydraulic now so maybe recalibrating won't apply for you. Just relaying my experience.
