LED replacement for porch light

I am not associated with this company, but I just wanted to share what I felt was a good product for a good price. I replaced my standard porch bulb with the following LED purchased from Amazon.com. The BA15S adapter will fit the bulb socket. This light is much brighter than the original incandescent bulb.

I read the reviews and most are negative..... Says the LEDs burnt out very quickly and run hot, adhesive is not sticky.

Although there are fewer than 10 reviews, erratic quality control is one of the drawbacks of these units. I've bought several varieties and sizes of LEDs through Amazon, mostly all Chinese, and have about an 80% success rate. I've sent some back for replacement, though - while a pain, that is always an option with Amazon.

I have installed 10 in my and friends motorhomes. Only one LED out of 48 burnt out on one unit and they replaced it for free. They do not run hot and the adhesive worked fine. All you have to do is clean the surface with rubbing alcohol prior to installing. I have been using these for about 9 months, I installed in my previous motorhome which is at LazyDays in Seffner. I just stopped at it and the porch light is still working great.

Jim, been almost a couple months from your last post re: the 10 installs...any updates as I am thinking about rolling the dice for $4.95.

Thanks

Even the one unit which had 1 of the 48 LEDs out, is still working. The replacement unit is still unused. No other failures or decrease in intensity have been noticed. I did have a problem with my socket adapter, but it was because I used it to power both the LED bulb and the multi-colored 16 1/2 foot LED string. I was drawing too much current and the connection inside the socket adapter failed. Mine was the only one which had this problem, so I believe that it was because of the extra current. I corrected the over current problem by bypassing the socket adapter and hardwiring the lights to the porch fixture.

I'm using the LED equivalent to the 1141 bulb (BA15S base), it has 280 lumens, kelvin rating of 4000-4500, 5050 led chips with the natural light. This bulb measures 3/4" diameter and is 1-7/8" long. Really lights up the entire area quite well. Cost though was $9.99 off ebay but when you figure cost per millimeter light that you receive it was cheaper than some. I'm please with it.

I put in about 15 of these guys in all my square fixtures, and have only one issue - they DO get hot (at least mine do) and the 3M adhesive on the backs just gums up and melts. So mine are glued in place with contact cement and seem to be holding now. Apart from the stickiness issue, no real complaints. Plenty of light.

Check out M4 LED RV conversions out of CA. You can see a demo of their products on RVgeeks. I've replaced 75% of my incandescent bulbs. As a dry camper - the draw reduction on my 12v system was immediately reduced.
