LP alarm/switch on 1999 Fleetwood Bounder

Good morning!

We need to replace the LP switch/alarm under the kitchen cabinet. I’ve been searching online, but I’m only able to find alarms. Our original has an on/off switch as well. My guess is that I’m using the wrong search terms. Can anyone help me out?

Can you remove the existing part , and look for manufacturers info , and take a picture .
Once we see what you’re dealing with we can be , way more help.

If it is what I think it is? I would use "propane detector 12v" maybe add RV. But never saw one with a on/off switch, unless you are talking about the test button.

I should have thought of that, but my brain was moving to quickly.

I'll keep trying to add the photos, but they are coming up blank.

This looks to be about what we need, but it doesn't have the on/test button that our original does.

That part you listed from gander is the same one we just installed to replace the original that came in our 2000 Flair. The rectangle shaped strip on the left of the face is the test/mute button.

If yours is like mine it is not just an alarm, it also turns the LP gas solenoid on when it senses no stray gas. So you will want to make sure you are purchasing an alarm/solenoid activating device, not just an alarm.

My concern is that it is more than an alarm too, Marvin. Hopefully as I continue searching, I can find more information. At this point, everything just brings up alarms.

Have you verified that you do indeed have the solenoid installed?
I thought ours did as well but turns out it doesn't have one.

Interesting thread on the gas valve solenoid here...

That is a good thread with a solution at the end.

At least this questioning mind wants to know: And so if I understand correctly, one could take the solenoid out completely and just use a detector and be legal and considered safe? Do these older systems have the valve in them that detects too much flow and shuts down? If not, would that need to be added to make them safe (if the solenoid were removed?)

Just for safety's sake I am installing a non electrical unit called The GasStop about 80$, just screws inline at the tank.

Thank you all for the input and link. My next step is to find an instruction video to verify what we have now is what needs replacing and that we are choosing the correct part.

i too have a 99 fleetwood bounder, and my lpg sensor is also a solenoid shut off controller.

i thought it was broken the first few days i turned it on, because all it did was sound a fast chirp for 30 seconds then blink. turns out that is part of the normal start-up sequence, and at the end of the chirping if you listen to hear the clunk of the solenoid.

also, it is wired very oddly, not your standard ground and positive. i can fish out the instruction book if you want it.

If it isn’t hard to find, I would appreciate it. We didn’t get any manuals when we purchased. We’ve found some online, but not as easy as I would have thought.

I ordered the Safe-t-alert part today. We have the propane turned off at the Main and are just taking cool showers. It’s hot here, so not a big deal. Our camp owner has also given us access to a cabin shower if we really want a hot shower.

You propane detector was made by CCI. Model # 7719.
CCI went out of business in 2008.
You have 3 options.

1: Replace your detector with an alert only and remove the valve on the propane tank
2: Safe T Alert make a complete replacement system that draws about 1 amp. Where as your CCI system draws 168 mil amps. (0.168 amps). Make sure and use the Safe T Alert solenoid valve. The CCI valve is wired for 9 volts.
3: You can get your control system repaired. Contact Larry @ ccirepairs@gmail.com. Larry is an electrical engineer and know his stuff. He normally does a 3 day turn around. I have one of his repaired CCI 7719 in my ol Bounder. Going on about 10 years with no problems.
