Ms. Cheryl - Check Engine Light

We have a Fleetwood Pace Arrow 35M diesel. My husband found that the check engine light was on. The gauges said it was low on one of the engine fluids, which it was not (I know, I'm so knowledgeable). Anyway, again, I know I don't know anything about this, what are the possible reasons for a check engine light to be on? Thank you; from the Wife.

Usually a check engine light doesn’t come on for low fluid.
What gauge said it was low on fluid?
You need a computer diagnosis tool to plug into computer.
