Need some more help

I replaced my house batteries and have them all charged up. I replaced the two 6 volt with two 12 volt hooked up pos. to pos. neg to neg. When I unplug my 110 cord from the house and turn on the "aux bat" switch I got nothing. Nothing ran by the 12 volt works. There is an audiable click in front of the cab when I work the switch to either turn on or turn off the "aux batt" switch in the front of the cab, so it leads me to believe the switch is working. I have checked all fuses and tested the battery to ensure there is power at the source. All is good.

I have determined I need a new converter yesterday but shouldn't the batteries supply power without the converter working? I have checked all fuses, and tested the batteries. I can't figure it out.

Connecting Two 12-Volt Batteries in Parallel
  • To connect two 12-volt batteries in parallel attach both positive terminals to a single connector. The same is also done with the negative terminals. This can be done with short pieces of wire.
A single battery has two terminals, one positive and one negative. The two combined batteries connected in parallel also will have, in effect, a single positive and negative, terminal. This combined battery will also be 12 volts but will have the combined amperage, or power, of the two individual batteries. The extra power can be used to provide a longer operating time for any battery powered device.

I would think even without the converter(for charging) that you should still have 12 vdc power in the Coach.

Hooking positive to ppositive and negative to negative is correct for 12 volt batteries. That's a parallel circuit and results in 12 volts with increased amp hour rating.

Wiring batteries in series results in the voltage equaling the sum of the volts of the batteries connected together.

I think the OP has a switching issue.

The batteries may be wired through the converter/charger. That wouldn't be typical in a 1992, but maybe somebody modified it at some later time. It shouldn't be too difficult to check to see where the battery positive cable goes.

A faulty disconnect switch - or perhaps a main fuse/breaker for battery power - is another possbility.

The issue was a bad battery disconnect for the house batteries. Thank you all who offered some advice.
