New Coach advice

As some of you know, we bought a new Bounder Class back a few months ago and still trying to figure of things.

1. What kind of spray do I use on the Jack? I have a silicone spray that I use on the slide rails.

2. Having a hard time figuring out the AC/Heater adjustments. I set the temp to what i think would be comfortable but it turns off about 5 degrees higher than I set it.

3. I have never had this option in my other coaches and not sure of the use for it. Manual doesn't explain. There is a "low hot and cold water drain" Is this something I need to do every time I take the coach out?

I sure I will have more questions in the future but want to thanks everyone for feed back or advise.

The leveling system jacks? You probably don't need anything unless you leave them down for lengthy periods in a place with a corrosive or sandy atmosphere, like a beach. You can spray with a silicone if you like. By the way, there is little need to spray the slideout rails either. The gear is huge, the speed ultra slow, and the frequency of use minimal. Just keep 'em clean.

Where is this 5 degrees measured? On the thermostat itself or somewhere else? If yours is a 2 or 3 zone system, your t-stat probably has remote sensors in each zone. When you display a zone, ti should give you the actual temp in that zone and the "set" target temp for it. Most RV t-stats will overshoot by 2 degrees, i.e. if set for 70, the heat runs til the t-stat touches 72. On won't turn on again until it drops to 68. I'm not sure what thermostat your Bounder has, though.

The low point drains are used to empty the water from the fresh water lines, so you only use them when you want to empty the system (e.g. winterize) or flush/sanitize it. I do each once a year.

HWH says to use WD-40 on their hydraulic jacks.
My new Fleetwood Tioga 18 months ago also had the thermostat 5 degrees off.
I think the drains are for winterizing. Mine were.

Hope this helps...

Barry--are your jacks Power Gear hydraulic? You should have a manual for them in your Fleetwood Owner's documents. Here is an excerpt from the Power Gear Manual...

1. Check the fluid level every month. Fill the reservoir with the jacks in the fully retracted position. On vertical pump assemblies, the fluid should be within 1/4 inch of the fill port lip and checked only with all jacks retracted. On horizontal pump assemblies, the fluid level should be up to the weep hole on the side of the reservoir tank and checked only with all jacks retracted.

2. Change fluid every 24 months.

3. Inspect and clean all hydraulic pump electrical connections every 12 months.

4. Remove dirt and road debris from jacks as needed.

5. If jacks are down for extended periods, it is recommended to spray exposed chrome rods with a silicone lubricant every seven days for protection. If your coach is located in a salty environment (within 60 miles of coastal areas), it is recommended to spray the rods every 2 to 3 days.

6 Jacks equipped with grease fittings at the bottom of the cylinder should be greased with light weight lithium grease using a hand pump style grease gun only. 2 or 3 pumps should be sufficient for every 20 - 30 uses.

7. Do not use a high pressured was/rinse system on any of the components associated with the leveling system. This includes the pump, pump motor, wiring harness, control and touchpad. THE USE OF A HIGH PRESSURE WASH/RINSE SYSTEM WILL VOID THE WARRANTY.

I have 2 zones. Some said that they need to be calibrated. Someone sent this link to me but have not had time to read it.

In my Bounder the sensor for the front unit is near the ceiling so when the a/c is on in front and I have the thermostat set at 75, it will never shut off. You will learn very quickly how to adjust the system to keep it the desirable temperature.

I don't know what Fleetwood was thinking putting the sensor up so high.

I haven't noticed where the sensor is in the front but in the rear (zone 2) the sensor is on the wall in the bedroom half way up the wall.

Also noticed that I use a lot more propane on this coach compared to my National. I know this has duel furnaces. But in my older coach I would turn off the water heater when we were not using it. Just turned it on in the AM because I know the wife would be washing breakfast dishes and turned it back on a hour before taking a shower. Noticed that in the older coach, the water would still be hot even though the switch was turned off an hour before.

I said I would have more questions when I came across some.

We are camping for 3 night and this time when I used the jacks (auto ), the green light came on saying I was level but it still rocks when we move around in the coach which we have not noticed before. I have never used the manual setting yet, so can I use the manual mode to raise a little bit higher so it won't move back in forth when walking around??

Also, noticed that my rear jacks are much more extended then the front, could I put some blocks under the rear jacks to keep them from extending so much??

Thanks again for your advise!

Yes, you can put blocks under the jack pads, but never allow the jacks to raise the rear wheels off the ground since the parking brake only works on the rear wheels via the drive shaft.

If you have air bags, have you dropped them to lower the coach? Doing so will help stability.

The way I read hwh on WD-40 is us it to clean then wipe off or if the jack is stuck.Remember WD-40 is a degreaser and will clean just about anything.

Mrboyer, hate to admit it but not sure if the coach has air bags but assuming it don't.

Barry--you do not have airbags. It would be helpful if you had a bubble level to check whether the coach is actually level. Many times the jacks are not calibrated correctly and the auto level is not accurate; manual corrections are necessary.

I'd suggest having your jacks recalibrated; this is something you can do yourself. There is a tech sheet available from Power Gear that describes how to do this--it's really easy. You'll need a bubble-type level to verify level for the calibration. Once the levelers are calibrated to TRUE level, your auto function will be more accurate.

There often will be times when an unlevel site requires the front or rear jacks to be at different extensions. We carry stackable jack pads to keep from hyper-extending the legs if necessary.
