New Problem found

In the process of taking a shower today, I found that the tub bottom is soft around the drain. Have any of you encountered this? I was wondering if anybody had attempted to fix it themselves. I'm a handy person so I'm not afraid to tackle the job. But it would be nice to hear from someone that has done it so I would know ahead of time what is involved. The unit is a 2001 Southwind 32V as my signature says but I just know that if I don't say it someone will ask what kind of unit we have. I have a feeling that it would be the same no matter which model folks have though.

,
We have always used ours for storage (2 years) and used the showers at the CG's. Last summer I finally cleaned it out and opened a cut out down under the shower pan to see what was there and noticed that the ptrap wasn't hooked up I sware. It really looks like it hadn't been hooked up because it has shifted over maybe 1/4 to 1/2 I guess. I have looked really good under there and see no water stains and the shower stall looks brand new also.
ours isn't really supported at all in the drain area because of the Ptrap and the drain line to the gray water tank. Ours gives very little and the rest is really solid. I wonder if the Fiberglass in that area didn't cure right???
I still haven't figured out how I am going to hook the Ptrap back up I got the exact one I needed @ Menard's. (i still can't believe Menard's had them)
Good luck and hope you get it fixed. Sorry about the ramblings
Tim

Is it just the tub that is soft? Or the actual floor?

At this point I'm not sure. I will have to crawl into one of the storage bays and see what I can see. I'll report back.

Without a picture, I don't what tub you have, but if it's an above the floor tub, the softness around the drain is normal because there is no support under it.

Well, I'm not sure how to describe the tub. It is a plastic/fiberglass tub with a fan fold show curtain. It is above the floor. And it seems to be located directly over the driver side rear wheels. I can't see anything. The cross in the drain has corroded away and there seems to be water in the drain all the time. I assume there is a p-trap under it. The only place that seems soft is right around the drain. The rest of the floor is solid. I can't believe it is supposed to be but stranger things have happened. I guess I'll call FW and see what they can tell me. Thanks,

Ray

That's normal. You have a platform all under the tub, except for where the drain comes out. Can't have a solid piece of wood AND a pipe in the same space. So they make a U shaped cut out for it.

Thanks jesilvas, that makes sense. I'll just keep an eye on it and try not to step close to the drain.

On mine there is a inspection cover in the top of the wheel well, I had to remove the tire to access the cover, when cover is removed I could inspect the drain.

Most FW's have a fake vent or other cover on the front of the shower. You remove that for access to the P trap. Have you tried removing that cover to see what is under the shower pan?

\Thanks for the suggestion but there doesn't seem to be any access cover or panel that I can find.

No, I haven't. We just got home and I thought maybe I'd wait to see if anything develops. From what jesilvas post said, he said it was normal so I'm going to wait and see. I'll just have to not step too close to the drain.
