New to me used Expedition

I just traded for a 2005 Fleetwood Expedition, 300 Cat/3000 Allison,33N...it drives and camps great. Couple of questions I need help on. First I do not see the green operation light or any of the other lights on the LP detector that is at the bottom of the wall going into the bath hall. Do I take it to a dealer or could a novice replace that sensor if I ordered one??? I am also looking for the cut off for the LP tank and found at the very back passenger side storage a fill connection for LP and a button that says emergency cut off.... it is a off and on button. Is that where I cut off the LP supply when fueling etc....On my Bounder I traded it had a turn valve on the tank I closed. I think the tank on this camper is under the camper in the middle. NOt sure how anyone could get to it.... any help is appreciated.....glen

You are correct about the switch. The tank is not easy to get to, so they put the cutoff to use during filling or an emergency.

When I first went through my new to me Providence, I had no 'on' light on the propane sensor. I took it out of the wall and discovered someone along the way had unplugged it. You might want to check that first. I plugged it back in and it's been working, albeit with a couple of false alarms, which is why it was probably unplugged. Like other detectors they probably expire, but given the cost i'm holding off as long as I can.

Update on this LP sensor. I took it to a RV Dealer to get checked out and if broke to replace it. They called and said they ordered one. I needed to do something with the unit so I picked it up while waiting on the sensor to come in. When I took it back to get the new sensor put in a new tech came to me and said the he had to reach way up into the wall to get to the wires and when he plugged the old unit in it worked fine. So he said you don't need this new 80.00 sensor. So I got an honest man and don't have any idea why the wires were not plugged into the unit in that I just purchased the unit. Glad it all worked out...glen

The most likely reason it was unplugged, is false alarms. Formaldhyde is used in the carpet, in the paneling, etc. When the coach is closed and the weather is hot, the formaldhyde will turn to gas and cause the alarm to sound. Some people unplug the detector to stop it. That is OK when the coach is in storage, but not when in use. The alarm will not go off if you are living in it because you will have the AC on and the MH will stay cool.

Is It A Fuse Issue?

Congrats, Glen

I'm just a few months ahead of you, with an '05 Fleetwood, and it has been a real pleasure.

The workmanship in these rigs is impressive; my only beef is with their use of vinyl laminate cabinet framing. The same inept slob who elected to install Office Depot furniture in our otherwise well-appointed RVs in now in charge of determining aisle width with the slides retracted in the recent models...

Hey, check all the fuses in the box that faces where the shore power connects to the coach. Make sure you turn off the battery switches at the front panel first. Then, release the two levers and remove the cover. Underneath there are lots of fuses. Checking them now and getting a complete set of spares will save you endless grief down the road: 80% of your electrical problems will be operator error, and 15% of the remainder will be fuses.

BTW, don't panic if the thermostat appears to "freeze." The fuse inside can be pulled to reset the unit; then, wait a few seconds after every switch position change/input. It needs time to think, like us old guys

You can test your built-in LP alarm and the one in your bedroom that needs replaced every five years with a cigarette lighter (just the gas, not the flame).

Enjoy!!

Thanks!

Thanks for the testing tip RVNeophytes2. I've been using the 'test' button but it's logical that the button only tests the alarm, not the sensor.

Been an RVer for 40+ years and still learning.
