No brake lights

97 Fleetwood discovery 36a. No brake lights. The turn signals, hazards, and parking lights work. I have power at the brake light relay. I also have a 3rd brake light that works. Is there another relay that I don't know about? The 3rd brake light works on a red wire, the other brake lights have a yellow or green which also work the turn signals. Does anyone have a wiring schematic for this chassis. I have one for the coach but it doesn't have enough info

My chassis has a separate brake fuse. Only the brake lights would not illuminate.

I guess you checked bulbs and sockets? Does the trailer light connection work?

On a 1997 chassis, if the 3rd or cyclops brake light works but the side brake lights do not work, then chances are excellent the diode in the wiring harness is burnt out. In that year+- Freightliner designed the brake lights with a diode only large enough to accommodate the coaches brake lights. When you add a toad brake lights to the circuit the diode usually fails.

The diode is sometimes a challenge to find. Generally is is inside a wire bundle near the steering column. Search this forum for the diode and cyclops light and you will probably find a lot of hits back from that era.

Let me know if you need anything

I found the diode, it is bad when tested. Where is a good place store or online to get a higher amp replacement?

Thank for all of your help/replies
Freightliner has great wiring diagrams for free that really helped me.

EDIT i found a place online that sells Roadmaster 690 Diodes for $10

When I replaced mine, I used two 10 amp? diodes in parallel. I got mine from Radio Shack . They were everywhere back then. I see 10 amp diodes on Amazon for real cheap. But the one you found would probably work also.

Looks like brake light bulbs use about 2 to 3 amps each. So with two bulbs on the coach, and two on the toad you would probably need a 15 amp diode.
