Noisy A/C unit

So my rear ac/heat pump has begun to make a weird noise. It's like a metallic tinny howling noise. It changes pitch slightly here and there for no apparent reason and it makes the noise in both ac and heatpump mode. It does cool and heat as it should but sounds like it's ready to give up the ghost at any moment. Any ideas? I'm hoping not to have to replace the whole unit.

Sounds like the fan motor getting ready to "give up the ghost".

Having just replacing my rear AC/Heat pump motor I feel your pain! See these two links on how to remove and replace the AC motor. You can get the motor at Camping World for about $150. The shaft bearings go out long before the motor does and these bearing are not replaceable.

...Good Luck- YOU CAN DO THIS!!!!
