I have had the pleasure of having to replace my awning motor 3 times since I bought my 2019 Discovery lie in May of this year. I have only used ithe awningt once on my maiden voyage to ohio. When I put it out it wouldn't retract fully, Finally I had a fellow camper tie off with bungee cords. After 4 weeks at lazydays and two more motors. I decided not to press my luck and chose not to use it. Along comes a 3 day weekend entering on ramp and bam! It deployed and I was stuck agian 5 hours and 500 bucks later zip tied and back to lazydays where thy said it was the motor‽???,, still waiting!

If it didn’t fully retract the first time you used it, the arms probably need to be adjusted. If the motor couldn’t reach the point where the retract switch shuts it off, it could burn the motor up trying to fully retract the awning. They are complicated to adjust and it doesn’t ‘t sound like your choice of service shops has anyone knowledgeable.

Sorry I cant offer help, but just as a reference, I have a 2019 Fleetwood with a 17 foot awning, and it has been "in and out" probably 400-500 times and never a problem. I'm going to agree with the above comment, that there has to be some adjustment that needs to be made that will relive the stress on your motor that keeps working too hard and burning it out.

A trip to Girard in Red Bay Alabama will solve all your problems.
I have adjusted mine so it’s lower and the front corner is lower than the back so water will run off. After doing this, I can’t advise anyone to try these adjustments on their own.

Some people cut the power to the awning when traveling.

Hi, We have the same model (2019 40M), did you go to Red Bay for the awning adjustment or do it yourself? I noticed my awning collects too much water very quickly when raining and I know if it had more tilt and tightness, this may not happen. Also, do you know of a way of manually cranking the awning in, in case of motor failure?

I made my own adjustments. Making an adjustment in the awning arms is easy. Making the correct adjustments to achieve your specific goal may get very involved, and you can easily get to a place where you wish you would have never started.
You have to keep the lead rail above the slide topper. You can’t adjust the awning with the slide out. It’s a small adjustment, then check for topper clearance, a long process. And I think the adjustments are only down, if you over do the lowering, you can’t just tighten the bolt to lift the awning. I think you have to lift the awning manually to readjust the arms, then start lowering again. If the elbow height gets out of proper adjustment during the arm adjustment, then the awning won’t retract into the cassette and may burn out the motor. This is why I suggest going to Red Bay for adjustments.
Yes, there’s a cap in a hole that should line up with an Allen screw(5/32 ?) on top of the cassette that can be used with a drill to manually retract the dawning. They put the blind guy on the assembly line the day mine was made and he didn’t drill the hole over the Allen screw. I had to locate the retract screw and drill a hole in the correct location,

This really helps, I looked at it and it didn't look too difficult. I think the blind guy also installed my cassette because I didn't see a hole for the manual retraction screw.
