Oh Oh!!!!!!!!

We no sooner left sub zero Michigan on Thursday morning, inverter on, furnace on, headlights on, and heated seats on, and our voltage meter started dropping. Off went the furnace, lights (when it was daylight) and heated seats......but by Ohio, when we lost gauges and quickly powered up the generator, it was clear that our alternator had most likely quit. We ran the generator all the way to Florida, stopping two nights along the way. We plan on doing the same to get home in two weeks, with one overnight stop along the 23 hour route. We want to wait until we're home to repair it. Any harm in doing this?? Any helpful tips? Our motorhome is a 2003 Fleetwood Providence diesel pusher.

Shouldn't be a problem, other than you are running on the 'backup plan'....and therefore don't have another backup to the backup if your generator or charge solenoid goes out.

If you are going to wait to fix, I would just check to see if by some chance their is a fusible link in the circuit path exiting the alternator in the path to the chassis battery. Don't have your coach schematics to know for sure one way or the other, however if there is...it might be that the alternator is actually okay and the fusible link has burnt. Might be an easier fix than you think.
