Onan 8.0 rv genset

generator is in a 94 american eagle. after around 10 minutes shuts down. trips a breaker. usually will start and run for another 10 minutes or so and then shuts down again. gauges do not show any temp or oil problem but they may not work properly. I start it about twice a week and it does the same thing.

I say breaker but is a single button that pops out. It is inside under the tv at the dash.
Yes it slides out from the front.

Manual reads: Fault Breaker Trips when!
A) Low Oil Pressure -- IE too thin Oil- you should have 15/40 in there Or Oil level too low.
System takes 1 gal with filter.
B)- High Coolant Temp: Check Belt tension and Coolant level and No Air in system.
Possibilities: Def. Oil Pressure sender, Def Oil Pressure Switch or Def. Over Temp Switch
Check the wire connections on the Oil Pressure Switch--the Oil Pressure Sender-- and the Over Temp Switch.

Questions: Is this a Side Radiator mount or is the Radiator mounted right in front of the Generator ?
Has the cooling system been opened? IE: coolant change or new hose recently ?
Have you checked Voltage at the Battery with Gen set running ?
Low volts will shut it down also ! Should be charging @ 14.2 Volts

Let us know what you find.

I will look tomorrow but I think it is in front. I will check everything you mentioned
Is the voltage to the chassis or house batts or both? I don/t think the the cooling system has been opened when the oil was changed. I will call and see what oil was used when it was changed.
Thanks Sorry it is taking so long to answer you posts.

IS it the main gen CB that is tripping?
My 8000 Onan is a 2007 with the CB on the gen. When they begin wearing out they will trip as they heat up and finally reach a point where they will not reset period.

Let us know how things work out as we are all ever learning here - Richard

So just now I started the gen and checked the voltage. at the chassis reads over 17 volts
and house is over 15.
I haven't yet inspected the generator for coolant or oil levels or weight of the oil that was changed a month or so ago.

That voltage is High- Check the Voltage at the Gen Battery and the Back of the Alternator--should be at 14.2 to 14.5
Your generator should or might have an Independent Battery.
Does your Gen-Alternator look like this ?

well another problem. finally got a chance to look at the gen. the rail must be jammed as is won't come out. burned up the lead to the switch or got very hot and stared to smoke.
The last time it was out was when the mechanic changed oil. He said that they greased the rails and lead screw. Crap.

There's a bracket on the end of the Screw Drive mounted on the front.
Remove that and It will Side out.
