onan gen 7000

should my gen run when the engine is running? with generator on I started my engine and generator quickly quit running. 99 discovery 37v both diesel.

yes, gen shouldn't quit due to eng. start up. Had a 97 H. Rambler that was wired wrong, called Monaco they told me to take it to a dealer n have the them fix it. Done under
warrenty so i don't know what they did to correct it. I am sure some one here will give u
advise on how to do it urself. Lots luck with it

Try it the other way around. Start the engine and then crank the generator and see if it will run.

Since u r not getting much of a responce I suggest calling Fleetwood n
running the problem by them. I could start the motor home eng. than
start the gen. n it worked fine. but it shouldn't be that way, u should be
able to have the gen. running n start the coach eng. n gen .continue to
run !!

They both should run, as they are independent of each other. I always run both simultaneously. If your fuel supply is below a quarter tank, the generator fuel supply pickup MAY be out of fuel. If you know that your fuel supply is higher than one quarter tank, then fuel is not the problem.
