That is impressive. The HP and torque they can get out of the new power plants is amazing. I get a new Ram 1500 every three years at work. My most recent 2014 has the V-6 with the 8 speed automatic. I grumbled about the V-6 till I drive it. It easily outperforms my old V-8 and does it at an average of 23 MPG. The 8 speed tranny keeps it in the high torque range much longer than the old V-8 and tranny ever did.

Chris' Chevelle is mostly about noise and tire smoke. Would never want to run that body at the kind of speeds the engine could produce.

Here is a sketch of what I think my dash connection looks like. I plan to go to the storage garage and look harder tonight.

Tim,
remove a screw from the dash ,check to see if it is a tec screw (self drilling), if it is replace screws with next size larger screw without self drilling tip. In many cases those self drilling tips on those screws leave minimal meat for the threads to grab onto, thus stripping out the hole.Hope this helps.

The screw is a 1-1/4" drywall screw coarse thread

So the existing screw is a #6 X 1-1/4" and I purchased some #8 X 1-1/2" in a brass. I plan to install screws in all the holes not every 3rd hole and use some glue on the threads.

On the dash issue... If you can get the whole thing off.. Go to the hardware store and buy a bunch of small rubber gaskets and glue them to the the spots where the screw holes in the dash top meets the base (this will help reduce skweaking)... Then before you screw the screws back in put a dab of clear silicone in the screw hole (this will reduce the likelihood of the screw coming back out by itself)... But will allow you to unscrew in the future

Haven't noticed any squeaking yet. Do the grommets go between the fiberglass and the dash or between the aluminum strip and the fiberglasss?

That should work! It's basically what I did to mine and they haven't backed out again in 10,000 mi.

Throw some screws in it and turn the radio up.
Just kidding. Great ideas even for older coach owners who are more likely to have the same problem.

I would suggest you inform Fleetwood of the repair procedure you followed if this corrects the problem. That information may be of help to someone else who encounters the same problem.

Spoke to FW today and they were on board with my repair and ask to know how it worked out. I will try to take some pictures but honestly once I start working on it I am sure I will forget about the camera. We'll see.

Now I'm really curious. Did FW offer to compensate you for time and materials to redo their poor installation practice?
