Pace Arrow body repairs

So last month I had posted a pic of the upper rear corner of my Pace Arrow and someone had suggested a fiberglass repair. Well, I decided to go that route and wanted to share my progress.

Here is the pic of the broken corner:


I made a form out of wood to lay the fiberglass on.



Here it is after a few layers of fiberglass. The salvaged original piece fit partially on to my wooden form so I could overlap the fiberglass to it.


I used vaseline as my release agent to get it off the mold. That worked surprisingly well. I had gotten the idea from a youtube video. Here it is just after I had pulled it off the form. My top overlap had come loose a bit which is why I have the clamp on it.


Here it is with the excess trimmed off. I had put a layer of spray pain on to check color match and ended up sanding it a bit afterwards. I also drilled the holes for the side marker light. I am working now on repairing the broken corner of the backup camera housing. Spray foam on the under side of the camera housing to give the fiberglass something to form to worked well.


Now all I have left is a small bit of work on the camera housing and then on to paint and installation. It probably won't be as smooth and nice as the original, but it will certainly be functional and look better than the broken corner.

It's always nice when you can do something yourself, saving the cost/expense of having to pay for it to be done. Having it look as good as if it was done at some over priced shop. Some thing you can be proud of especially when your having a toddy for the body around a campfire. RVBobcat

I believe that was my suggestion, but had no idea you had that kind of damage to warrant such an undertaking.
Anyway, you're pretty handy, evidently, so good job and other than some labor of love, you'll be way ahead in the end vs having hired it out.

I believe that was you that suggested it. I didn't look back when I was writing the post to give you credit, sorry for that. It's working out though. Thanks for the suggestion.

GREAT JOB! It pays to be handy and patient doesn't it? Most of the time the self repair is better because a self handyman will overkill.

wow... looks great, can't even tell it was ever in a tree cruncher...
