Permanently remove A/C
I am new to RV ownership and halfway through replacing the rubber roof. I took the A/C unit off and I don’t want to put it back. I am happy to live without it as I don’t live anywhere hot and have never had A/C in my life.
But I have run into a problem: my thermostat no longer works without the AC unit hooked up. So no more furnace either. Isn’t there an option to NOT have an A/C unit? There’s a control panel that used to plug into the A/C pin-style plug. My guess is that I’ll have to rewire part of that to skip the cooling option, but I cannot find ANY information on this. I have a Coleman A/C unit and an Excalibur furnace.
Am I doomed to just hoist the A/C unit back to the roof and hook it up even though I don’t want it?

Welcome to iRV2 .
A number of coach roof A/C units/thermostats, are wired the way yours is . With the roof A/C make and model you should be able to get an installation manual as a pdf from the manufacturer , and see if a bypass is possible , of if you'd need to strip the control board out of the A/C and leave it in the attic to get the furnace running.

Look at the wiring diagram of your furnace. There will be two wires that can be connected to a cheap mechanical thermostat. Currently they will be in the wires running to the ac. (probably white and red). I did it when the circuit controlling that in my ac quit once when I was snowed in at a Walmart... Bought some wire and a thermostat and added it as a separate thermostat which we still use.

Replace the t-stat with a battery operated digital read out from Honeywell. You tube is your friend.
You do know you will not be able to sell your RV in the future with no A/C right? Just leave it there and don't use it.

Why can't she sell the RV without an AC unit?

I did leave the control board in the attic, but somehow, my furnace still isn’t working. Thanks for the tip, though.

I don’t really want to hoist it back up there when I am done replacing the roof and also the shroud is all cracked up and would need replaced.
This RV wasn’t worth buying in the first place. I got scammed, but I’m handy, so I gutted half of it and fixed it up and am slowly replacing parts, including the roof. It’s weird and awesome, but I am pretty sure I couldn’t sell it to anyone who would care about the A/C anyway.

You wanna buy it? Kinda narrows down the field of buyers don't you think?

I'm not the biggest fan of AC either but most of the few RV's I've been in had horrible ventilation. You pretty much need the AC units to move some air around if nothing else. Not so many RV's with ceiling fans. When the heat pump in our house failed we found out it was like that too. No real cross ventilation, nor attic fan, etc. The old house we grew up in weren't designed for AC and you could get some air moving through them. (Some of them anyway.)
This RV sounds like it might be rather unique. But even so, no AC, means no sale for most folks looking at big tin cans on wheels. At least around here.

I can't tell you how many RV's I've had with no AC. I'd guess it would depend on where someone lived or wanted to sell the RV.

The opening should be the same size as a Fantastic Vent or another brand. Install a nice fan, not a bathroom screaming little motor type but a decent one. RV's can get hot sitting in the sun and at least having a whole house fan is nice.
We had two TT in the past without AC's and on pickup camper. Had many years of fun. It was rough at night in some places so small fans were a must.

Good for you! But I agree with others, resell potential is pretty much nil. Is "Nil" your first name?
