Looking or some help. 2000 Bounder f53 chassis. I had a rebuilt tranny put in a few months ago and everything was good. This past weekend on the way home from a campground the tranny kept bumping from one gear to another and had me worried, When I pulled over I noticed that my battery gauge was not working. I told my wife we would more than likely end up getting towed since the battery wasn't charging. Yes I did check the obvious connections. Well a couple miles down the road the gauge started showing it's normal state. The transmission was shifting perfectly and it was running like a new camper.

I am suspecting a connection between the charging issue and the tranny messing up. Maybe a bad ground connection somewhere? I will be taking it back to the shop, but would like to try to figure out what is happening on my own if possible.

Just looking for any thoughts from my friends at IRV2.

What is battery voltage? With and without engine running? Thus will give an indication if the alternator is working.

Just taking a shot in the dark here but I would suspect a ground strap between the engine/trans and chassis may not have been reattached and is possibly just laying there making occasional contact.

Not sure yet. I will be checking that tonight if I get out of work on time.

Sounds like it could be a battery problem. How old is the battery?

x2 on the ground strap on the transmission. Don't just visually inspect it, give it a tug to be sure that it's not rotted on the inside. Probably 80% of all 12v electrical issues are related to poor ground connections.

Found my problem. My ground wire up to the battery disconnect was messed up. I took the quick disconnect completely out and put in a completely new cable. The RV is running like a new one now. No loss of power and no shifting problems.

To those that offered up ideas, thank you. I truly appreciated all the suggestions as to what to look at. I have touched and checked every ground wire I could find.
