I have the same plastic gear in my motor and it stripped...probably because I go in and out in too much of a hurry and have accidentally stepped on it while it is still moving outward. Anyway, gear stripped, step stuck down on a road trip. I found on ebay a gear kit for $26. But I also found an entire replacement motor (with new gears and everything) for $35. I bought the new motor.
