Power Gear jack problem
one of my electric Power Gear jacks is not working causing all the jacks to not work. took M/H into local repair shop. they said that moisture was getting into the jack brake and that the RR jack was corroded inside. they said it needs to be replaced and that they also recommended the other three be replaced at the same time. they want to replace the jacks with 4 upgraded jacks, jacks that have a better seal to keep out moisture.
I have a 2008 36' Southwind (Fleetwood) M/H that is still under warranty. the jacks have a two year warranty, i'm fairly confident that neither Fleetwood nor Power Gear will authorize the other 3 jacks to be replaced under warranty. the one jack has to be replaced, but just can't get past the "if it's not broke" mentally for the other 3, unless warranty would cover it.
does anyone know of this problem with this brand of power jacks? could use some input before I have to order a replacement or go ahead and OK a full set of jacks.

I believe it would be in your best interest to get a 2ND opinion. I just find it hard to believe for a 2008 model. My unit is 11 yrs older and works flawless. Mine are Hydraulic, and you mention your being ELECTRIC, hold fast on 2ND LOOK......Good Luck,
David G.

Same sort of problem and after having the LR jack looked at twice for not coming up finally forced the dealer to replace all 4 with upgraded units. I just keep reminding them this was a factory issue and not casued by the user.

I thought Fleetwood switched to electric powered jacks in 2005 or 2006? Maybe they've switched back.
I'd still call PowerGear, I bet they'd just send you a new jack.

My 05 Southwind has the electric Atwoods on them and I'm not pleased with them at all!
They do not work properly at all!

I've heard a lot of complaints with the electric Atwood jacks, but not so much with Power Gear. I'd go to a Fleetwood dealer and do whatever the warranty will pay for. A call to Power Gear wouldn't hurt either.
It may be your shop just wants to sell a set of jacks.

Mine was right rear....brake corroded due to moisture. Power gear replaced that brake and supplied 4 new and improved rubber boots. The only thing I could see is they are sealed with hose type band instead of a tie wrap.
Now the story gets good. Replaced brake and all four boots. Checked jack operation and the left jack failed or should say fell. The movable part actually fell to the ground so PG sent a complete jack assembly. Installed new jack and found the control board had failed, PG sent new board.
This took about a month because PG once didn't ship for three days after the order was placed so most of the wait time was on delivery.
I picked my mh up Thursday night and I'm leaving tomorrow for a 6 week trip including the Fleetwood Rally in WY. Power Gear is supposedly going to charge me freight on the final shipment...we'll see. All of this was covered under warranty by a fantastic repair facility in Conroe, TX. Their labor to Power Gear was $1200+. Parts another $1000 probably. Now I'm considering that dang extended warranty again.
Question OP...what would be an upgraded jack?

sounds exactly what has happened to mine. the rubber boots are said to be less than adequate to keep water out....hopefully Power gear will be as generous with my '08 Fleetwood..... I will contact Power Gear and Fleetwood this Monday morning to get the ball rolling.....thanks for the input.

Bob, my 05 Bounder has hydraulic jacks. I don't know of any 05's with electric but that doesn't mean there aren't any.

power gear
Had same problem with my 07 excursion, left rear.called pg and they said they had issues with these units.they sent me 4 new motors and gear boxes under warranty.i said i would put on myself so i knew job would be done right, besides i'm 80 miles from nearest dealer. Changed lr last fall, got back from az. In april and right rear quite so i changed that one.tore old one apart motor good brake was full of corrosion,so i'll replace brake and keep as back-up.i think the biggest problem is rear jacks are right behind the duals.power gear tech.very helpful i would call them i think they will help. Hope this helps. Mike

thanks, michaelsnewt.... best info so far.... will call today. I did talk to Fleetwood yesterday... they also said they will handle as a warranty issue. but will call PG. sounds like a good possibility that they will replace than the one that is bad. I have the same problem with corrosion.

They should replace all 4,because if 1 has condensation eventually they all will. Remember pg has had issue with these jack motors

I had the same problem with the same kind of jacks. Had dealer look at them and they told me the same thing they told you. Come to find out I got to looking around and found a loose wire connection in the compartment where the controll moduel is, reconnected the wireing and working like it should. Check on their web site for the tech manuals and updates.
