Power Gear Jack problem

I have a American Tradition 2013. Last trip home the right side jacks only came up 3". We were able to get home without scraping. I have replaced the motor 3 times in the past. This time I jumped 12v to the motor and it runs, but sounds like it's grinding. I then jumped to the hot side of the solenoid and the motor ran. The jacks did not move with the motor running. My question is, is the hot side of the solenoid hot all the time? If not, I think I have a fuse out. Where do I find that? My control panel has a red flashing light.

If your motor runs but the Jack foot doesn’t move, it’s probably the shear pin that attaches the foot to the gear. Power gear is notorious for this. If the sensor fails or gets covered with road grime, the foot doesn’t know when to stop and snaps the shear pin.

You really need to go through Power Gears troubleshooting guide, a few pages to find the problem. There’s numerous reasons the leg could stop at 3” on the way up. For instance, mine has a magnet on the bottom and the top of the leg to let the system know when the leg is either all the way up or all the way down in order to stop the motor. The magnet (about the size of a dime) came off of one my legs at the bottom, so when the leg retracted it went all the way up and the motor kept trying to pull more, overloading, tripping the system. Since the legs are retracted in a certain order, once the troubled leg tripped the system, the other legs were in random places making it hard to trouble shoot. I’ve also had motor brakes that locked up causing the same type issue you’ve described. In other words, it isn’t just, “Oh, your problem is definitely this” or “that”. Many things it could be, sorry.
