Propane and CO monitors

Hello, I bought a 1995 Fleetwood Tioga Montara as a project. Thus far it is turning out to be in better shape than I expected.

One question I have, is what is the life of the built-in Propane and CO monitors?

Thank you

Depends on what CO/Propane monitor you have. Suggest looking for the manufacturer and model and down loading the manual. My RV Safe RVCOLP-2 has a 5 year life per the manual.

If you don't know exactly how old they are, replace them. If you do know, follow the manufacturer's specification for each.

Remove it and look for an expiration date on the back.

Unless the printed date on the back is within three years. I'd just replace all alarms. It is your life on the line, don't go cheap on tires or alarms.

Life expectancy is typically five years, but check on the make/model you have.

Be safe and have fun....

Typically about 5 years and most recent models will have a Mfg date and a stated life, while older ones (more than several years) often did not. The service life is just a guess about how soon the sensor gets contaminated with dust, errant spray from aerosols, splashes or fumes from cleaning products, etc. Some may last a decade or more while others can get erratic in just 2-3 years.

Typically a contaminated sensor gives false alarms rather than failing to alarm when it should, but the alarm manufacturer can't be sure so sets a time limit on his liability

The monitors have a shelf life... generally 5 years but probably not more than 10. It's usually printed on the back of the device itself. I honestly don't know about CO detectors but in both of our RVs, the LP detector began "squawking" when it neared end of life. Each is easy to replace and they are not expensive. My advice... replace both... it's cheap life insurance... AND, you know what you have once done.
