QD8000 Gen issue
I know there are threads regarding this, but they do not address my issue. Gen suddenly would not turn over. While attempting a start you hear the fuel pump, then the distinct sound of the starter engaging, but wont crank. No code or anything. Over 14 volts at the electrical studs at the rear of the gen. It acts like a low voltage situation, but voltage seems fine. This is an Onan QD8000 gen in a 2021 FW Discovery lxe 44h.

Good volts but no amps--check bat cables at battery and at back/inside genset cabinet!

There are a couple of relays on the top left corner, opposite the switch. Hit that area with your hand and see if it will free up one of the relays. Also, have you tired to hold down the stop switch for about 30 seconds and then tried to start the genset? Have you tired holding down the battery boost switch while trying to start the genset?

Yes, I tried both those things. As i said, you can hear the fuel pump to pressure up for quite a while before the starter tries to engage.

Does the starter ever engage? Is there a cummins dealer near you? That genset is still under warranty. Could have a starter that is hung up or control issue.

The starter does engage, but doesn’t appear to have enough power to spin. I have spoken to a Cummins Onan dealer. They weren’t sure there was warranty. I know the coach has 1 year basic, and the chassis 3 years basic. I’m not sure where the gen falls. Was not explained to us at time of purchase.

Cummins just got back to us. There is a 3yr 2000 hour warranty. 2yr basic, 3rd year major component.

Try jumping power across the solenoid, it might be week and contacts won’t stay closed if that checks out ok tap the the side of the starter, and have someone crank it over at same time, might just be hung up or have a dead spot in the windings. As stated above check all connections, a poor connection can give the same condition

Fixed the problem some time ago and thought I’d post. The battery terminals inside the case of the gen must have been only finger tight from new. After the vibration from running and driving, in a few months they almost came right off leaving the cable ends hanging on the studs. Not an easy fix now. This unit is only 1 year old.
