Question for 2013 (or 2012)-era Discovery owners or prior-owners

How does the Cummins 8.3 ISC (380HP/1050lb-ft) do for power for the 42A/42M, 44,700 GVWR floorplan size of coach?

The same year/size/weight AC Revolution has the Cummins 8.9 ISL (450HP/1250lb-ft).

FW only made the 43+ ft Discovery model for 3 years (2011-2013). I don't need to go screamin' up hills or passing everyone in sight, but am wondering if the Discovery is a wee bit under-powered & maybe that's why they didn't last long (or they wanted to concentrate that level on AC's).

Thanks for any input.

Hi Lori,
Coming to the dark side are we? The Discovery in those years came with the 380HP and in our 40E at least it is a fine engine, no issues with power. Pretty close to full load and we still made 8% grades at 50mph. I would imagine you add a tag and 10k to the GVW, fully loaded you wouldn't win any hill climb, but you would get there. I think the engine difference is price point of the coach, nothing more and you would be correct that FW wanted to keep the Discovery line to 40 and move people to the Providence line?

Hi Brian! Not the 'dark side', just may be graduating from Padawan to Jedi Knight. Still weighing our options. Thanks for the input. We don't win any races with our Bounder, but we always get there.

I've always liked the Discovery line, ever since the first 40X came out in the mid-2000's. For that era, handsome color schemes inside/out, 2 floorplans I like, propane stove, framed/large opening windows, double my fuel capacity & the price point for used is certainly no slouch either.

They're scarce as hen's teeth though. None anywhere close to us to take a peek.
