replace Sony Camera w/Voyager camera & Sony adapter DON'T DO IT

After nearly a year of trying to resolve our backup camera problems; we finally got it! The sony cameras w/ pioneer monitor is discontinued so our local dealership sold us a Voyager B&W back up camera (our side cams still work) . They said the system will not support the Voyager color cam but it will the B&W . We had to purchase new cable and an adapter that is supposed to take the Voyager to Sony at the switch box. We checked the setup from inside the coach all was good. Installed the cable and Camera with him crawling under the coach in 104 temps all afternoon. Finally got it secured ; turned it on and nothing. Ended up removing the cable which took about as long as installation and took it back with the assumption that is was our unlucky day and we had a bad cable. They order us another cable ; this time it worked fine but we had the sense to also string it out to the back of coach to recheck; doesn't work! Dealership said must be something else wrong. Voyager had no answers, finally I decided to contact RV cams and they said that although there is a Sony adapter for Voyager cams they have seen this before and it is because the Sony doesn't put out enough voltage so when 75' cable is stretched out it loses signal! We purchased Sony replacement color camera and Sony cable from RV cams and all is well! I didn't want a B&W cam anyway ; we could have saved ourself many episodes of frustration and research if we had contacted RV cams first. The dealer said they had never heard of such but they did refund our $ for the Voyager items. No one knows why they sell an adapter for something that doesn't work with the adapter. LOL

This is good info. Thanks. I don't need it for my rig but I know someone out there might. Does your system work at night? That is one thing mine is not good for but, heck, I don't do dark on the road any more.

Happy trails,
Rick Y

We don't do night driving either unless it just happens against the plans so I can't say if it works at night really. Also was such a long process to resolve the problem I don't remember how it works; but I can see the picture now so that should help lol

Hey Dan, Don't it FEEL good seeing the towed back there? When I was towing on a dolly I could see the tires (on the dolly) when they would blow. Had two fail. YUCK. .

Glad you have 20/20 hindsight again.
