Replace Steering Column

Hey all, I have a 1999 Fleetwood Discovery Pusher.

Has anyone ever upgraded their steering column to one with some switch controls on it? I would love to be able to down/up-shift the trans using some steering wheel controls. I have thought of trying to find something similar in size, might get lucky and it match the splines, then solder some wires from the Alison controller to mimic pushing those buttons. Right now I have to reach forward further than my arm will reach (and I'm 6'2") moving my whole body to shift it while driving. Not safe! One time I went to push the Up button, hit a bump and ended up down shifting from 5 to 4 rather than 5 to 6. Didn't hurt anything but was quite a surprise. Ya get some weird looks from the copilot when things like that happen. LOL

Any ideas?

I've got the same issue , shift pad too far from driver's right hand , thought about extending it out of the dash about 4" , but haven't got to it . There has to be 7' of wiring harness in the dash for the pad.

I believe , that someone had ; or was trying to fabricate; a steering wheel mounted paddle shifter that spoke to the control pad .
But that was a number of years ago , and I'd think if it had worked there'd be a lot more info on it by now.
