I have 2007 Discovery which we bought new in 2008. The jacks were nothing but problems the first year and they were covered under warranty. I felt the same as you looking for other options. Then I found out that PowerGear had a new improved seal kit along with new brake kit. When I installed that I noticed the mud flap only covered the outside dual and if you drove on wet roads the jack would get a severe bath. I extended the mud flap horizontal to cover the inside dual protecting the jack. This makes sense as the problem jack was always in rear. The jacks have worked without fail now since 2011. As others have stated the problem is the brake get corroded. One other thing I do now is cycle them about every 30-45 days. I replaced the seals in all of the jacks back then except the front right and that one still works telling me that the moisture from the rear wheels was culprit. I also put some caulking on the wire that enters the jack. Good luck and I think a person can make the electric jacks work.

The GAMA controller has no provisions for limits up/down that I’m aware of, my levelegs “clutch” with a really loud ratcheting noise when they reach their limits, I immediately release the button when I hear that beginning so as not to break the shear pins. Also, no provision to let you know the jacks are up or down when leaving for another destination, I always leave the remote and a note on the steering wheel as a reminder. Probably not a good fix for everyone,, but it works well for me.😎 if you’d like, I can email you the info I have on the setup.
