Firstpoet-

1999 Southwind: Rear A/C unit can be run on separate 20 amp shore power circuit

The entire 1999 Southwind site should be a gold mine for you. Don't miss the downloads section.

I did what you want to my 95 Bounder. I separated the 20 amp line with a duplex and a plug so I could run an extension cord to the pedestal.

My question is 'how' do you do that - where do you break-out/Y-out the power so you can run an independent extension cord for the 2nd AC?

Can anyone provide guidance or a link to 'how' this is done? I'm somewhat handy and can do it if I know how. I've searched this and other forums but they all seem to discuss 'adding' a 2nd AC, not rewiring so you can plug the existing one in separately.

Thanks so much and safe MH'ing!!
Hi, when I had 30 amp service with two ACs I was able to run both ACs at the same time you just have to put one on at a time to make sure both compressors don’t kick on at the same time. And of course make sure your water heater is using gas not electric and you don’t use the microwave. Sorry if you already know this answer.

We were a Fleetwood dealer. I have worked on many, many intellitec shed systems. It looks like you have a 35 foot motorhome. If so, it came with two air conditioners. The industry rule is under 30 ft one ac. Over thirty feet two ac’s. If the intellitec system is working correctly, the system should support two ac’s. If you turn on a microwave it will shed one ac to have enough power for the microwave. As soon as the microwave goes off it will power up the ac. If someone has added a 120 volt heater to the water heater it could draw enough power to cause the ac to shed.
I have a 1998 35 ft pace arrow. We live in Georgia and I run both ac’s all summer with no problems. I just make sure I don’t have all the lights going at one time and I don’t use the microwave too much in the heat of the day.

Have you thought of investing in Soft Starts?

We have a 2014 Fleetwood Bounder with 50amp service. However, that is of little use in many parks that only provide 30amp service.

We invested in 2 Soft Starts, which allow us to run 30amp service, when needed, very successfully.

I'm sure that our investment was far greater than other options being discussed. But for ease of convenience and with my very limited knowledge, of just about anything, we were extremely pleased with our investment.
