Seriously carefree??? You gotta be kidding.
Snapped a pulldown strap on a carefree awning...no problem. Have replaced dozens over the years.
Nope. The awning channel has a cap on both ends, pop riveted on and looks like it won't clear enough without removing the end from the arm.
Seriously???
A one minute job is now going to be a medium project?
Thanks "designers" for this one. May your cad software lock up during a deadline. Wishing you the appropriate karma.

Drill a angled hole the size of the pin close to the end and slide the strap on.

I used a grinder and extended the channel right through the cap.

I drilled mine to get the strap out/in (a window awning).

As waroland noted, drill in the area of the channel groove, right at the end near the cap, you don't drill through the cylinder, just enough to "widen" the groove that will allow the strap pin to slide out.
I've done most of mine, window strap, replaced slide out topper and awning strap, I think it's a 5/16 bit size...but not sure.
But it is a very easy thing to do.

Thanks for all the replies.
I actually wasn't looking for help but just had to vent at design stupidity like this.
Like, what? The strap will never wear out? Duh? Probably learned from those engineers that designed the Monza....where you had to jack up/partially remove the engine to change spark plugs.
I had, at the time of my post, already modified the roller end to have a 1" length of groove that had no lip, (power tools are wonderful) and replaced the strap. Took about an hour...mostly to get a pair of ladders and a helper to hold the awning open whilst I did the mod. Should have taken 5 minutes, alone.
Thanks again

I had a monza 2+2 with the 262 V8, that was a fun car but you are right about the plugs.
