Thumbs up Shower Surround shot!

Hey Guys,
I have a 2008 Bounder 35H. After winter storage we found that the back wall of our shower stall cracked in three (3) places, horizontal cracks about 6 inches apart! I want to replace the surround and can't decide which way to go. Do I do a standard 3 piece surround, or do I get a stone type material to do it with? I was thinking of tile BUT I am afraid that the bumpy roads might shake the tile apart! I do see tile in the upscale Diesel pushers but I think their air-ride suspension absorbes a lot of the jolt from the road! We have 22k on the rig and have enjoyed it very much! Have had the usual problems (living room slide, levelers, overhead TV cabinet shaking loose, stinky leaking toilet, Norcold-not cold) and still have a generator problem; but have been working on that fix! Please comment, suggest, direct, or even come over and repair the shower stall!

Can you find some squares of colored lucite, big enough to cover the cracks?. Put the "decorative" patches in various places. To look like accent panels. Make them look like they belong there.

Tom3205,
Thanks for the suggestion. I currently plan to use some awning tape to keep it from leaking until I decide what to replcae it with, I want something that is durable, easy to clean and easy to instal.

Really, a 2008! Seems too new to have all the above problems!

A way to fix it

I have a 95 that had a crack in the floor at a corner. Clean up the area real well even use Acetone as a final cleaner and mix up some JB Weld. It will try and run on the side walls so build a dam with duck tape and wait for the JB Weld to start to set up before applying. Popcycle stix works to apply it. This will fix the cracks and make a good seal. Test somewhere else first for practice. You can then use fingernail polish in what ever color you or DW wants to make a design. Hardest stuff known to man, excuse me, woman
Not pretty but it works. Lite heat gun to assist set up (hair dryer) with DW permission first.

now if you have a way of laying the MH on its side the JB Weld will not run as much.

I am a big JB Weld fan as well and that is what I would use to tackle that project.

The is a new JB with a faster setup time. Only gives you about 5 min to work with it. You might try two thin applications

Product is also very sand able and takes paint well

Don't have the dealer fix it. Dealerships labor rates are often in excess of 100 dollars an hour. Call a tub/shower repair place. Not trying to be a jerk here but how is it Fleetwoods fault that your 8 year old refrigerator and generator are experiencing problems? Fleetwood doesn't make those items.

As far as only having 11,000 miles on it. That really is irrelevant. How many hours on the generator? They are meant to be used. How much has the refrigerator been used? Again, these things are meant to be used.

You should know that the plastic liner is probably ABS and that the reason it cracked is due to temperature. An 8' length of that plastic will expand and contract a good 1/2" from 20 to 100 degrees. It's why vinyl siding pops and buckles on warm days? My bet is a newbie at Fleetwood got carried away with construction adhesive, fastening the plastic to the plywood backing in a manner that's bonded so tight the plastic can't float, so it broke. Whatever you do, if you install a new liner, install it so the surface can float. Use slotted holes for all fasteners, something like silicone instead of construction adhesive.

I have a 07 36Z and I just noticed a vertical crack about 6" at the top. I used clear gorilla tape. I plan to pick up a 3pc unit from the store and replace. I've installed to many over the years in homes. It's not hard and they are a little thicker. Also less expensive if you pick up a unit from a mobile home supply house. I know it sounds cheap but there better than you think.

Is the 3 pc unit available in home depot, etc? I just don't remember seeing anything like that but I'm sure interested.

They are, you just have to get the measurements of height, depth and width, also make sure the drain hole is in the same location.Be sure to talk with someone at the store that really knows what their talking about. As you know some have no experience at all and could send you down the road of headaches. They are really 4 piece unit's as they count the pan (floor) as a piece also.
