Side light markers blink opposite to what expected

My 2013 Discovery 40x side light markers blink opposite to the directional lights ( back and front ),,if I turn on the right turn signal the left side marker blinks ...left turn signal.. right side marker blinks. I was told this was a "safety feature" but that seems so wrong. Anyone on the right side of my coach would think, if they saw the right side light blinking...I would be making a right turn. Since I would be making a left...this seems unsafe.

So two questions

1. Has anyone else seen thIs on their coach?
2. Is there a source for a wiring diagram that I could use to troubleshoot this problem?

Thanks.

Mike

Has anyone else seen this on their coach?

A bad ground to or a bad bulb in any one directional light socket, (front or rear), can cause, (and has caused), that same malfunction on my coach.

Mel S has it correct. Almost always a bad ground when dc lights act weird, and a bulb out can do some strange things

Mel,

Thanks for the quick response...both side bulbs are good..will check the ground. My first thought was the original owner had work done and somehow wires got crossed...I assume the same flashing relay operates all directional lights.I will confirm that all directional bulbs are good but they do seem to act as they are supposed to.

Coach was a consignment sale but I did talk with owner..he was the source of the comment..safety feature...sooooo...I moved on.

Thanks again

I have now checked all the directional bulbs far as I can see they all operate as designed...looking for a bad ground I guess the next step...not sure where to start but hope Fleetwood and/or freightliner can help.

An update on my side markers blinking incorrectly:

Emailed Fleetwood support
Called Freightliner (very helpful)

While the ground issue was a good call - FL believes Fleetwood grab the wrong dropout from the harness (put left on right and right on left)...if a ground problem was present he said other directionals would exhibit strange behavior. While the chassis is still under warranty, that issue would be Fleetwood as FL does not connect the lights or accessories. After crawling under the coach and examining the drops (the parts I could see) I agree with FL.

Fleetwood did get back with me but said to contact Freightliner, it was their issue - an admin person not technical from what I could gather. Did send me about 6 PDFs on wiring schematics will be helpful in the future I am sure. I sent back a reply based on FL diagnosis - waiting for a reply but not optimistic...Ideally I would like FW to rewire but I am resigned to fixing the problem myself.

So, barring no positive news from FW - don't believe I can pull the existing drop downs over to their respective sides (it is the couple of feet over the rails that would be difficult without a lift) but I do think I can get 6 wires pulled over and just rewire using the connectors from the existing dropdowns. Left connection now becomes right and right becomes left.

Open to other ideas.

Mike

Sounds like the typical chassis maker blaming coach maker, coach maker blaming chassis maker. My last coach had the cruise control wired backwards...accel/resume was wired to set/decel and vice versa. Rather then make matters worse, and try to fix it, I just got used to it.
