Just for general information, is there an easy way to push the slides in when the power or slide controller boards fail on an 03 Fleetwood Discovery, 38U?

On my coach, the slides can be cranked in manually. See attached PDF file.

Are you aware of the fuse in each slide controller? I had one mysteriously blow once. That stopped the room half way out.

You can also use an external 12 vdc 10 amp power supply. Unplug the motor connector from the chassis wiring, insert 2 wires from the power supply to the motor connector apply power to the power supply. You might need to swap the polarity by swapping the 2 wires on the motor connector to get the slide to move. If the slide moves the motor is good and your problem is a fuse or wiring issue. It the slide fails to move regardless of the polarity, the motor is bad.

Wow! I started this thread to gain some general knowledge . I wasn't having a problem with my slides. Low and behold, the very next day my slide failed, it only came in about 6in, stopped, then the motor started to knock. I let it knock twice maybe three times then I released the rocker switch. I pressed the other switch and let the slide go back out to its limit, then I tried bringing it in again; No Luck. Well , with the info you provided, I was able to crank the slide back in and get on the road. I think a new motor is in my future.

Before I order, I'll get back underneath, and verify the knock was in the motor (transfer box) or at the rails.

My 03 Discovery had two slides. If one failed for reasons other than a bad motor, I just switched the cable to the control circuit board until I could get back from the trip. Sometimes just cleaning the main plug to those circuit boards would do the trick. The boards where the same even though the slides were different sizes. Good luck. They also each had a slo-blo fuse on the circuit board to check.

With only an 8" wrench at night, 40- degrees? Very difficult. Had to lay on my back and push the wrench with my foot. Pushing the wrench 1/4 turn, moved the slide about an 1-1/2". Took maybe 30mins, bigger wrench would have been nice, or perhaps a 3/4" socket on a long ratchet drive bar.

Thanks. I'll have to make sure I pack those things just incase.
