Slideout Water '08 Excursion

We have a 2008 Excursion. All 3 slideouts have covers installed. The Drivers side livingroom slide always has water trapped on top. I have inspected the cover and see no cuts, rips, tears, etc on them. As best I can tell they appear to be installed correctly or at least just as the other 2. The covers extend past the slideouts. We bring the slide in slowly to allow any water trapped on top to run off but there is always a fair amount of water that is laying on top of the slide. We have to always place towels on each end of the slide top to soak up the water when we travel so it doesn't end up on the floor.
Very confused as to where this water is coming from and how it can get to the top of the slide under the cover.
Has anyone else had this problem ???

Use your leveling jacks to raise the front or back to allow the water on the slide to run off before pulling in the slide.

Tether balls

I have two long slides that collect quite a bit of water whenever it rains.

I push a couple of partially inflated tether balls about 2/3 of the way in there between the slide and the slide topper. It creates enough of a 'peak' that water no longer pools up there. If it doesn't pool, it won't go through.

When we pack up to leave I grab the rope attached to the balls & pull them out.

It's really interesting when the water freezes up there! Sheets of ice breaking sounds a lot like breaking glass.

I have water accumulate on top of the slide topper. Was going to see if there is some way to increase the tension on the topper so that the water doesn't pool. Anyone know how or if this can be done?

If your going to be stationary for a time, my solution is buying lengths of 3/4 inch poly pipe, the ridged type. Buy some T's to fit and I use a 2" coupling as a foot, you'll need to reduce it down to 3/4. Measure the slide and divide in quarters. Glue a T in at each section and on each end. If your slides are longer then you can fit in the bin place a screw fitting some where in the middle. At each T add a short piece of the tubing, make the center one an inch longer and put the coupling on it, it makes a good stable foot. It takes a step ladder to install but it works great. The entire rig costs less then $20 and will last forever.

A picture

Budski,

I'm probably not the only one who would like to see a picture of that.

I replaced the fabric on all of mine and increased the tension by two whole revolutions. It made no difference. The basic problem is that there is not enough pitch for the water to run off and no matter what it will eventually pool up there.

I asked the people who made my toppers if they could be cut in a way that tightened up the middle more than the ends and never got a reply or any sort of acknowledgement at all. I was thinking that if the center was stretched tighter than the ends it would prevent the pooling and form channels for the water to run down. It would also flap in the wind more.

For water on top of my topper, I sweep it off prior to retracting the slide...can't help with water on top of the slide itself.

I have had screws/screw holes, that attached the topper to the gutter leak and let water get on the slide. Also, I believe that the gutter has a joint along the topper at some point that could leak water onto the slide the best I can tell. Meanwhile I have used a telescoping boat hook (or any extending pole) and attached, with duct tape, a standard windshield squeegee to the end of the pole and squeegee the water off of the slide before retracting it.

We just stick with the towels! Just don't like the idea of "tweaking" the chassis for and aft to drain the water off the slide roof. The wiper gets most of it, but hey, throw the towels in the dryer when you get there nice and warm for an evening shower! P.S. Don't forget to remove the towels when extending the slides!!
