Smart Wheel questions
We have a 2015 American Eagle. About a year ago the smart wheel failed, horn, wripers, and cruse control. Fleetwood said it was a Freightliner
problem. I took it to Freightliner, over a 100 mile round trip. They said they replaced a fuse, road tested it, showed me where the fuse was, and charged me almost $200.
It has failed again. I replaced the fuse, even thought it was not burned out, but have no action on the smart wheel.
I hate to go to Freightliner again!!! Any help is appreciated.
Thanks, Rudy McTee

There’s a thing called a “clock spring” under the steering wheel that has probably broken. It’s what provides power to the steering wheel controls. If you’re comfortable with removing the steering wheel , you can replace it yourself, if not, it’s a trip to the repair shop. Many shops can do it.

The way the steering wheel is built, I cannot see a way to remove it. This may result with another trip to the repair shop.
Thanks for your suggestion!!!

Get hold of the horn pad around the edges and lift. Mine is held down with clips and just pops off. You’ll also need a wheel puller to get the steering wheel off.

Try this:

Reset the control module as per the guide, check voltages/continuity to verify the controller is good. If not the controller, it is the clockspring.

I have a 2015 Fleetwood Discovery and had the same issues. I tore into mine and found the clock spring flex cable had flexed one too many times and split the conductors.
I assume a poor design but replaced it and have never had another issue. If I recall it was close to $500 for parts and labor.
Could have easily replaced it myself but took it in for the warranty to pay for it.
Good luck with your diagnosis!
