Solar battery maintainers

I have been thinking of getting a solar battery maintainer for my 2008 Fleetwood Fiesta motorhome. I see these priced from forty and seventy five dollars. Any opinions on these products would be appreciated.

You would have to identify how much, if any draw you have at "idle" of if you completely shut off the batteries.

For example, my toy hauler, in "idle" mode draws about 3 amps. Any charger I have would have to exceed the average over a 24 hour period.

If your batteries are fully shut off, they should not be losing any charge. When I store mine for the winter I disconnect the battery and 4-6 month later they are still fully charged.

"Tradition" 120v plug in maintainers are 2 amp and monitor/run constantly.

Solar only works when the sun is out and the highest number they are rated at peak performance. 100 watts of solar is about 5 amps at peak.

They are not good or bad. You need to understand how they work to understand if they will meet your need or not.

Just figure out how to shut everything off. The master switches won't always turn everything off. Smoke alarms and CO detectors sometimes stay on...need to find the fuses to pull. If the chassis batts and house batts stay connected with master switches off...find the fuse to disconnect them. Make sure you turn the propane control switch off...this is usually an outside switch located near the propane fill valve. Make sure inverter is off at the unit. Etc etc etc

If you hook up an amp meter to your battery bank when you get everything off...draw should be 0amps. Batts will last a long time with 0amp draw.
