Solar panel

I have a 2004 American Eagle 40J & it says it has a Solar monitor panel for the 1 panel top side..but I've never been able to find it..I would think it would be up where all the rest of the monitor panels are but not there...I've looked around the inverter area & don't see it there so where is it?

Many rigs have a small red light near the other stock monitors that shows when the small panel is working. The same red light goes off when the sun goes down. The panel it monitors is to keep the batteries charged in storage.

Just follow the wires between the panel and the batteries. Id guess it will be near the batteries.

It is my understanding there is a red light in the BCC behind the cover. Reminds me to check mine when it is parked in the sun next time. But I don't know if my old panel is functional.

I've not seen any display panel dedicated to the slar panel on any American Coach product of that vintage (I had an '04 Tradition). The solar panel feeds through the BCC in the battery bay, where its amp output blends with whatever other sources may be active. You can view the net amp flow (in or out) on the inverter remote display (over the entry door on mine), along with various other parameters (system voltage, battery charge percentage, etc.) If you aren't running shore power or generator or coach engine, the values shown on that display will be solar only; otherwise it is the blended result of whatever charging source are active.

I think your '04 Eagle has a Xantrex inverter and remote, perhaps the Xantrex RC7/GS. Identify it and find the Op Manual online if you don't already have one. That will explain all the many items that can be displayed there.

If yours is the RC7GS, here's the manual:

I have a 2005 eagle 40j. open the bedroom slide and look in the little cupboard thingy that is in the bottom corner on the passenger side. mine is mounted on the wall inside that cabinet. you need to get down on your knees to see it.

The '05 had some electronic changes from the 04's, but the locations of things were mostly the same for any given floor-plan, so the 04 40J should be similar to the '05 40J.

AC Matt: what items/values does the solar panel monitor on yours show?

It's dark right now so it will only show the voltage in the batterys. During the day it will show the charge amperage. To be honest I really don't know too much about it. I bought the rig 2 years ago and the previous owner pointed it out to me and said it just does it thing. I did try to shut it off once, and noticed it does not have a power switch, at least none i could find. I'm guessing it works and does it thing. We do most of our camping boondocking in the desert and it seems to keep the batterys up during the daylight. I do have 2 solar panels though.

I'll check tomorrow and let you all know what its reading in the daylight.

If you have a second solar panel, you may have a different (upgraded) solar controller too. The factory solar is a single panel and (in my '04 Tradtition) it connects thru the Intelletec BCC (no separate controller).
