Step won't work on coach battery

91 american eagle.

My door step won't work on the coach batteries. Works fine on gen and shore power or if the engine is running. Any ideas where to start looking?

thanks for any help

Assuming you've already had your batteries load tested, look for a corroded/loose ground connection.

As installed by American Coach, your steps are supposed to operate off the engine (chassis) battery(s).

Question, if there were a bad ground wouldn't the step not work at all?

My opinion if it works on shore power and genny running its a power problem. Check your voltage.

Yeah likely bad chassis batteries. This same thing happened on my coach. My chassis batteries were weak. Replaced them and all is well.

Rooster is right, we know the steps work properly from genset or shore power. That narrows it to the battery source.
Have you determined which battery bank is supposed to supply power to the steps?

1999 FW Pace Arrow - my steps operate off the engine (chassis) battery only.

The problem I'm having is both battery banks are new, but the step will not operate without some external power source.

I've had the coach for 4 years and the step has always been slow to operate on battery and would only operate maybe twice before quitting. It's almost like the step has a power storage source of its own and it's weak, but I can't fine any such source. And with all new coach and chassis batteries it's really weird.

I have not had time to check voltage at the step connections yet but I will.
