Dont use a citrus based cleaner. Could make a rubber steering wheel more sticky and break down.
I had this happen in my silverado because my field job was nasty and would occasionally wipe the steering wheel down with hand wipes or clorox type wipes. Eventually it degraded it and made it slightly sticky.
I started taking water to it and have been able to get it to "back to normal" for the most part. It will never be the same. I will wipe it with regular 303 occasionally.
If its leather I use 303 leather cleaner. My motorhomes steering wheel is leather and hadnt been cleaned for a while. Be careful because it can make it slippery.
The composition of the steering wheel is breaking down. The best cure is to go online and order a leather steering wheel cover kit. Not the cheap stretching type, but the ones that have lacing that must be stitched through the cover.
