Stuck in driveway with slide not coming in '12 Southwind 32VS

Loading our new 2012 32vs for our 4 month trip and decided to try drivers slide with load in it. It would not come in. Moved a little and jammed up. No panic, lets take a look. Unloaded the slide and still no good. Guess we need service, no mobile service in our area. Dealer was no help, Fleetwood was no help. Emailed Power gear and before the keyboard was cold I got a phone call from tony. He walked me through enough to eliminate most of the possibilities. I went back to it and found the aluminum clad plywood floor was catching on the roller ramp and stopping the slide from coming in . The thin aluminum was being torn a little. I was able to get to it and lift the corner of the flooring that was catching and the slide came in . Looks like I will have to do a little fix of my own because there is now way I'm leaving this at the dealer. Taking off Wednesday or the west coast. Its only a few inches in the corner that is giving me trouble. I'll be able to see better when it stops raining. Certainly learned a lot about the slide mechanism today. Great stuff.

I think I have had nightmares about that. Being camped out some where and a slide would not come in. Maybe I should pick up a wide load sign at a truck stop. glad you got it working and figured out a fix. Good luck and have a safe fun trip.

Any chance you might be going near the Fleetwood factory in Decatur Indiana in your travels they do good work there.

JohnRR Interesting that you should mention Decatur. I was planning to use US 224 through Indiana. My timing won't let me spend any time there though. We have to make it out to Rapid City to see a brand new grandchild. Thanks for the idea.

Glad to hear of the great response from Power gear! Bob, Where are you coming from that you are using 224?

Update on slide problem. Called Fleetwood and got some real help. After a little discussion we agreed that the plywood is delaminating in that area. I can see the rest of the ply by looking under the couch and it looks fine. They agreed to let me put a couple of screws in it and not have it effect my warranty. They have a walk in policy at the Decatur service center. Looks like I will spend a day or so there and have them look at it. According to one of the people in the conversation they have seen it before and it can be fixed. I was going to use a route a little south of I80 because I have used it so often in the past a was looking for something different and was traveling right through Decatur (not realizing that
Fleetwood was there). Will traveling out of CT, stopping in Copake NY for a week with some grandkids and then slip south for the trip to Rapid City to see our son family and 10th grandchild. This will be a round robin out to Portland down to San Diego and back by a southern route. This will give our new unit a great work out.

I was able to push the leading edge of the slide floor up a little from the outside and get screws through the flooring into one of the aluminum bars and pulled it right up. The screw heads (round head sheet metal) had to be pulled in real hard to counter sink just a little for clearance. Had to trim some of the thin aluminum back because it rolled and was catching. Only about 1/8 inch clearance as the slide comings in. Had to reseat the lower slide gasket. Now that part has the same clearance as the rest. Loaded the slide storage back up (this time I weighed everything and it came to 188 lbs). Slide works great. I'll let the techs at Fleetwood make a little better fix when we get there.

Thank you for the update, they do have 50amp hook ups as well as a dump site in their yard. You might even want to take the factory tour on the other side of town to help kill some time.
