Stupid question, how do I release bedroom door travel lock?

How do you release the bedroom sliding door in travel lock?
I’m referring to, what looks like a plunger to secure the bedroom sliding door during travel. I can’t get it move up or down.

The latch pin goes "up" into the ceiling track to latch, so the handle (spring loaded) has to go down to unlatch it.

If it is like our 2006 sliding door latch, it goes down into the floor. A small ear sticks out from it. Step on the ear and it will pop up. Step again and it will lock in place.

Note: There could be "stuff" in the floor hole jamming the plunger, so it may have to be "convinced" to pop back up.

Mine is just like yours. I didn’t try pushing down, to get it to pop up. I will try that, thanks.

No, I can’t get it to budge. I don’t really need to close the slider, was just wondering how to.
The ear seems to be stuck.

Yours looks different from mine. Can you unscrew it from the door?

Actually I was wrong. I just went out and looked at mine. They look the same as yours! Sorry about that.

I double checked and I was right in that I use my index finger and press down on the small latch that sticks out and the plunger pops up. Then I press down on the top of the plunger and it goes down making the small latch pop and the plunger stays down.

I would imagine the things that can go wrong would be the internal spring that makes the plunger pop up may be broken, or gunk is jamming the plunger, or the hole in the floor block isn't drilled in the correct position or the hole is filled with gunk. Here are two pictures of mine with one in the up position and one with the plunger down.

Looking at your latch versus mine, it appears someone may have installed mine upside down. Mine also looks like there are dings on the latch like some was hitting it with a hard object. I’ll have to remove mine and see if it will freely move either direction.

I think you are correct! Yours does look like it is upside down. Good catch!

In that case, if nothing is broken, try and lift or pulling the plunger up. Also, On mine there are 4 screws holding the mechanism in place. Yours looks like one screw is missing and the other two screws are hidden. You may have success unscrewing the floor block then removing the mechanism.

Curious, is yours installed to hold the door open, or the door closed? Both of mine hold the doors open.

I had to take mine off and clean it with wd40. Also had to clean out the hole in floor. Great catch on the positioning. Good travels

I found a new “foot bolt” at Home Depot and replaced the existing one. All good now.

Thanks for that information and bringing closure to this interesting discussion. Now I have a proper name for that door locking 'thingy'
