TomTom GPS Location In-Dash - 2012 Discovery 36J
We just purchased a 2012 Discovery 36J, and I'm trying to locate the TomTom GPS unit in the dash so I can update it (maps and firmware). It's an integral part of the Sony XNV-660BT in-dash radio/nav/bluetooth system.
Does anyone have a suggestion where to start looking?

You need to visit Sony eSupport - XNV-660BT - Support and read the manuals.
There is one for TomTom Application update.
You might have to take a laptop in the the RV with you to do the update.

Thanks for the reference - I have that info, but needed to find the physical location of where the TomTom is located in the coach. The dealer told me that it's under the dash in a swing away panel located between the seats. I'm off to check that this afternoon.

So there is a physically separate GPS from the head unit? I assumed that they had used the TomTom SW and that the update would actually be performed to the Sony head unit.
Am very interested to know more about this.... I like the TomTom interface and capability. The Sony front end would be an alternative.

Yes, it's a separate GPS unit that has been integrated into the display for the Sony A/V system.
It's connected to the Sony XNV A/V unit by USB cable, allowing the TomTom to be placed in a remote location. That's why I had trouble finding it in the dash of our Discovery. You'll find the TomTom designated as the XNV model. Here's an illustration of what it looks like.

Here's one more illustration, and I apologize in advance for the less than wonderful resolution of the photo. The TomTom unit is located on the floor of the Discovery inside the front swing away console. The dock is screwed to the floor, and the TomTom unit slides inside it until it clicks. There's a release on the top of the dock to prevent it from accidentally coming loose while in motion.
I took the TomTom unit home and connected it to a USB port with the provided USB cable and updated it. I'll return it to the Discovery tomorrow.
