Tow a Jeep with 05 v10 Southwind?
I am about to buy a Wrangler Unlimited 4 door with the intent to flat tow behind my 2005 32v Southwind with the ford v10. Jeep is pretty close to 4500lbs. GVWR of coach is 20,500 and GCWR is 25,500, hitch capacity is 5000, so I know I am within spec on the coach, I am more concerned about the real world experience of towing near capacity with my specific year, drive train and model. I live in SoCal and will be going over the mtns to the desert, I don't expect to got fast but I would like to hear from someone who has first hand experience with this drive train. Anyone out there doing this with a stock 05 v10, what can I expect?
I am going to get a ScanGauge so I can keep a close watch on everything.
Anyone else out there with same setup as me pull a 4 door Wrangler?

What is the GVWR, GCWR and the hitch rating? Tow capacity is the GCWR minus the weight of the coach ready to travel. Therefore, your actual tow capacity is the number from above or the hitch rating, which ever is smaller.

You won't win any races, but you'll manage. We've got a similar combo as you although we've got the newer 362HP engine where I think you've got the older 310HP. We're able to keep up with traffic going up a grade if we get a good run at it, so long as we don't get caught behind a slow semi. If we do, we're stuck & don't have enough oomph to get around & end up putt-putting along in the slow lane.

I was reminded in another thread that a drop hitch will lesson the capacity of your receiver---I you have to drop to level the tow bar to the baseplate you are close at 4500 pounds---you might want to check it out---

I have a 07 32' bounder and I pull a 2007 JK Rubi with 35's and a lot of armor and I do fine. Don't worry, you will have a good set up.

We've pulled either our 97 Buick on a dolly (4,200 lbs) or our 04 Jeep (3,740 lbs) over 86,000 miles without problems. We've been from Florida to Alaska and from Oregon to Newfoundland and just about everywhere in between
The only time we had to unhook the Jeep was last year on the way to the Johnson Tunnel (eastbound half of the Eisenhower Tunnel). There was road construction and the stop and go traffic was backed up for miles. With all the traffic the top speed we were able to sustain was between 20 and 25 mph. Rather than take a chance we just unhooked and drove separately.

Hikerdogs, seems like almost everyone notices Eisenhower tunnel, it is at 12,000 feet, and Vail Pass is not far behind at 10,600 feet. Even with a DP pulling my built Wrangler I can tell it is uphill a long way.
