The engine will pull all of that just fine.

From what I've seen of the Discovery's they have a 10,000 pound hitch with a 1000 pound tongue weight rating. Your trailer will be fine.

Hitch up your trailer and go.

Our old 98 Discovery only had a 5000# hitch with 500# tongue weight. I don't know when they upped the frame and hitch to handle 10000#, but I'd make sure your D will handle the weight. The Cat will handle it.

Work the numbers, the tow rating is the lower of:

1. GCWR minus RV's actual weight (if it's not over GVWR).

2. Hitch capacity.

3. Coach tow rating.

4. Chassis maker's tow rating.

Thanks. I guess I should have checked first. Just wondering if anyone has pulled that kind of load. I have no doubt that the hitch is heavy enough, but how does the little C7 handle that much of a load?

I tow a 5000# Jeep GC, don't know it's there. Another 3K should be fine the tongue weight is the key factor

According to the brochures, 2004 Discoveries is when they went from 5000/500 to 10000/1000 towing

Even if your reciever is rated for 1000/10000 what is the ball and hitch rated for, that might be the weak link.

You can not "move" weight from the RV's actual weight to the towed vehicle. There are only three limiting factors, 2, 3, and 4. #1 is not allowed.

Not a whole lot different than my old Eagle with an 8.3C. I've been towing a 10,000 lbs race trailer for years( 2000).
My hitch is rated @ 10,000 lbs and tows like a dream - I don't even know the trailer is there half of the time.

He means it going the other way (e.g. if GCWR is 33000 and loaded RV is 29000, you can only tow up to 4000 even if the tow rating and hitch capacity are 5000).
